I've been wanting to change my business name for a few years now, but I could not think of what to call it. I just knew that I wanted it to be something a little more dreamy and whimsical than just my name. Plus, I got divorced and am going back to my maiden name, so Emily Kinsella Art is irrelevant now. It doesn't even feel like me anymore.
I pondered all sorts of names, I asked people for input and then I just started writing down words I was drawn to. One afternoon I was sitting outside, listening to a Dream Pop playlist and I jotted down Dream Folk and it just felt right to me for many reasons, which I will now explain to you, in detail. 😉 Just in case you are curious.
First of all, I'm a dreamer, always have been, always will be. If I didn't have big, beautiful dreams, sometimes slightly insane dreams, I wouldn't be where I am today. However, I believe in not only dreaming but making those dreams happen.
I chose folk because I have a deep love for folk & indie folk music, I'm very inspired by folk art, and I love that it sounds down to earth. It also means people and I like to think that the folks that enjoy my art are mostly dreamers as well.
The moth in my logo symbolizes change and freedom, which has been a huge theme in my life for the past year and a half. I love that moths are a little quirkier than butterflies, maybe not as popular or their beauty isn't as obvious. And moth fly towards the light.
